This hiking weekend was for 2 nights from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon.
The hiking on Saturday was a 10 mile circular route with the option of returning by train after 5 miles. On the morning we drove a short distance to Goathland, which was made famous as the village of "Aidensfield" in the TV programme, Heartbeat. We then hiked 5 miles to the lovely town of Grosmont. The afternoon hiking was another 5 miles back to Whitby. The hiking on Sunday was a 10 mile figure of eight route. We drove to the lovely fishing village of "Robin Hoods Bay". The morning hiking was about a 6 mile circular route with great views of the coast. We returned to Robin Hoods Bay for lunch and for a little exploration. After lunch we had the choice of a shorter circular hike of about 4 miles in the opposite direction along a disused railway before returning along a coastal footpath. The final day hiking on Monday was a 5 mile circular route. We drove inland to the moors and the famous "Hole of Horcum", which is a huge natural hollow 400ft deep.
